Matt Jones Re-Signs with Cameron Smith’s LIV Golf Team

As the 2023 LIV Golf League wrapped up, it became apparent that five players’ contracts had ended, with four of them securing their futures up until now.

Pat Perez renewed his commitment to the 4 Aces, while David Puig and Graeme McDowell ventured into new team territories. Bernd Wiesberger chose to return to the DP World Tour. Meanwhile, Matt Jones’ future remained uncertain until recently, when he successfully inked a new agreement to stay with Cameron Smith’s Ripper GC.

With this latest development, Ripper GC confirms three players for its 2024 roster – Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman, and Matt Jones. This follows Jed Morgan’s relegation and his unsuccessful bid in last month’s LIV Golf Promotions event.

The final lineup for Ripper GC remains incomplete, with one spot still open. Similar vacancies exist in Cleeks GC and Iron Heads GC, with the recent Promotions event graduates being likely candidates to fill these roles.

Additionally, the team composition around Jon Rahm is another intriguing aspect yet to be resolved before the upcoming season begins in Mexico next month.

Jones’ re-signing consolidates Ripper GC’s team for the 2024 LIV Golf League. He has been a consistent presence in every LIV Golf tournament since its inception in June 2022, achieving his best result with a 7th place finish at the 2023 Tucson event. His contributions were vital to Ripper GC’s victory in Bedminster this year, and he concluded the season ranked 37th individually.

Ripper GC ranked 7th among 12 teams in the 2023 season.

Jones, a two-time Australian Open champion, boasts two PGA Tour wins – the 2014 Houston Open and the 2021 Honda Classic. His peak world ranking stands at 41st.
